Christchurch Art Gallery,
During the devastating February 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the iconic art gallery suffered damage and ground settlement. Triple Pendulum isolators were added at the basement level as part of the building’s repair and strengthening plan. The isolators increase the building’s seismic resilience and protect the precious art collections.
Taipei Performing Arts Center,
The new building’s complex geometry and irregular mass distribution, together with its location in a highly seismic area, required an innovative seismic solution. EPS Friction Pendulum isolators were chosen for their better seismic performance compared to alternatives, because of their higher damping and lower base shear forces, simple connection details, and inherent self-centering behavior.
Cathedral of Christ the Light,
The October 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake destroyed the cathedral’s predecessor. Completed in 2008, the Skidmore Owings and Merrill designed replacement cathedral is an award winning light-filled wood and glass masterpiece. This innovative design achieved its better than minimum code seismic resiliency by utilizing EPS Triple Pendulum isolators under the concrete base.
Pasadena City Hall Retrofit,
Friction Pendulum™ seismic isolation isolators are the centerpiece of the seismic rehabilitation of the historic Pasadena City Hal l . During construction, the original basement floor was removed and 240 Friction Pendulum™ isolators were installed between the new foundation and new basement floor slab. Friction Pendulum™ isolators were selected over competing isolation isolators because they provided significant savings in construction costs and their relatively simpler installation details resulted in faster installation.
